Chassis Focus – Tom Cockerill

Having tried both the standard mid-motored Schumacher SV2 and their new prototype, Tom decided to gamble and run this new version of the car. The high traction here in Chico made it easy to cross over as the British driver was able to run a similar setup to what he uses on the astroturf back in the UK. The car itself is still not finalised and is subject to change but so far the car is performing well with Tom getting a top 10 run in round 1 of qualifying.

Chassis Focus – Naoto Matsukura

The Japanese ace is driving the new Yokomo B-Max2 MR mid motored buggy with a few prototype parts that they are testing for these conditions. In terms of set-up his Yokomo is completely different  from what he uses back home, the high bite requiring a harder shock setup and different shock angles. Like the majority of the top drivers here his choice of front tire is the Pro-Line Scrubs.

Chassis Focus – Dustin Evans

The former National Champion is using a pretty standard TLR22.2 in mid motor configuration and is using basically the same set-up as he used in the Nationals held last month on the same dirt. Only have to adjust the shock oils according to the different temperatures he was fastest in the final rounds of practice. The factory TLR driver has chosen ProLine Scrubs as his optional front tires.

Chassis Focus – Billy Easton

Making its international race debut, Billy is running the all new Serpent Spyder SRX2 buggy. Designed by the former World Champion, the car only comes in rear motor configuration which is not the norm on this high traction surface, most drivers preferring to convert their cars to mid motor. Running the car in stock configuration, he has only chosen to run the optional front brass bulkhead. In terms of set-up, being the only driver running the car and with little experience running on this surface he has had to make quite a few adjustments from the standard set-up but feels he is making good progress.

Chassis Focus – Lee Martin

Sitting 2nd after practice Lee Martin’s mid-motored Tamiya TRF 201XM is sporting a new chassis and gearbox, the longer aluminim chassis needed to mount the more compact gearbox which sees the motor more rearward and the shock tower more to the front. The result being more consistent traction. On top Lee is running the PL Phantom body which he helped develop along for Pro-Line which makes the car very stable but gives him enough steering when he needs it. On the rear he is using his all new LMR rear wing which is flatter than previous versions and sports a mini wing to help channel the air better, keeping the car planted in high speed corners. In terms of set-up the British ace is using a setup quite similar to what he uses at home, only adjusting the shocks to suit the different temperatures, running different oils.

Chassis Focus – Ryan Cavalieri

Defending two time World Champion Ryan Cavalieri is running the Centro C4.2 conversion on the Associated B4.2 to convert it to mid motor. The conversion was originally developed in the UK for carpet and astro turf surfaces so Associated have developed some parts, used by only a few of the main team drivers, that changes the geometry to make it more suitable for US style tracks and surfaces.
