Chassis Focus – Robert Pietsch

Chassis – Mugen Prototype
Engine – OS Speed T12 03
Fuel (handout) – Maxima
Tires (handout) – Matrix
Radio/Servo – Sanwa/Sanwa
Body – Xtreme Hammer

Remarks – Looking strong here at Homestead RC Speedway, Robert is running a prototype of Mugen’s upcoming 1:10 200mm kit release.  Featuring the same front end as the MTX6R the biggest change is a completely new rear end with both ends connected by a new chassis design.  With the rear having all new metal parts it follows the design of their 1:8 rear end and having less parts making it easier to work on the car.  In terms of performance Robert says the car has similar handling characteristics to it’s predecessor.

Chassis Focus – Loic Jasmin

Chassis – Awesomatix A800X MMCX
Motor – LRP X22 4.5T
ESC – LRP Flow X
Batteries – LRP 6400
Tires – Team Powers (handout)
Radio/Servo – Sanwa/Highest DLP650
Bodyshell – Protoform Type S Pro Light

Remarks – Joining team-mate Freddy Südhoff in the A-Main here at the World Championships in South Africa, top French driver Loic Jasmin is using Awesomatix’s A800X MMCX.  Like Südhoff, Loic also felt more comfortable with the Mid Motor configuration on the Welkom RC Arena indoor asphalt track because it offered more steering and rotation. In terms of set-up Loic’s car is similar to Freddy’s setup using the new C04M1+9.0 arms in front and C04M1+8.0 arms in the rear as well as the new AM105 rear stiffener.

Chassis Focus – Christopher Krapp

Chassis – Yokomo BD8 2018
Motor – Racing Performer M3 4.5
ESC – Racing Performer BL PRO4
Batteries – Racing Performer 6000
Tires – Team Powers (handout)
Radio/Servo – Sanwa/Power HD
Bodyshell – Protoform Type S Pro Light

Remarks – Unlike team-mate Ronald Volker whose car features a number of special parts, Christopher is running a standard BD8 2018 with the key change being the use of a Raceberry chassis and top deck.  The car is also fitted with Yokomo’s RTC rear end and has the usual titanium screw & turnbuckle upgrades driver choose to save weight.  Unfortunately after a strong start to the Worlds, a big crash in CP2 which meant the car had to be rebuilt with a new chassis, and then a second crash when he collected Viktor Wilck who had collected Freddy Sudhoff in the track fast chicane, Christopher has lost some of his early pace.  Despite this he is confident he can get himself into the mix in the final day of the event.

Chassis Focus – Jan Ratheisky

Chassis – Xray X1 2018
Motor – Hobbywing (handout)
ESC – Hobbywing (handout)
Batteries – EZ Power 4900
Tires – Hudy (handout)
Radio/Servo – KO Propo/Savox Signature edition
Bodyshell – Montech Prototype

Remarks – Jan is running what is officially being called an X1 2018 but the car is a test bed for a number of parts expected to feature in the 2019 kit.  The car which is running extremely well here at Welkom RC Arena, with Jan taking the opening three qualifiers in the Formula World Cup races that is running alongside the Touring Car Worlds, and has two key new features.  The first is a gear diff which Jan says gives better acceleration and more in corner steering under braking.  The other big improvement is the addition of a top deck with he said has had a beneficial effect on chassis flex.  Another thing being tried on the cars are different length front arms to test different geometries on the car.

Chassis Focus – Viktor Wilck

Chassis – Serpent 4X EVO
Motor – Dash RTune 4.5T
ESC –  Dash AI PRO
Battery – Arrowmax Low Profile 6200
Tires (handout) – Team Powers
Radio/Servo – Sanwa
Body – Protoform Type S PRO-Lite

Remarks – Viktor is running what is the basis of Serpent’s next touring car kit release, the major change being the new rear end on the car.  Other smaller changes around the car will also see the new kit being lighter than the previous model.  While the rear end has been seen before at the ETS, Viktor said since then they have tried a number of different uprights but have come back to the original design.  One new feature of the rear end, which he said give the car a better geometry with the rear roll centre more neutral, is the push rod holder.  Now the holder has three mounting holes allowing different angle of the pushrod angle which he said is the same effect as changing the shock mount angles on a traditional suspension set-up.
