Remarks – Australian VBC team driver Ryan Maker came to California with his standard TITC setup on his Wildfire D08 and has continued to make changes to adapt to the track’s unique track surface. Changing to a prototype chassis plate that has more flex for improved traction he has also narrowed the rear of the car to get more rotation. Due to the track changing a lot since yesterday and to cope with the lower traction he is still working on his setup.

Retro Focus – Barry Baker TC3

Sat-BakerTC3-1

4-time Reedy International Touring Car Race of Champions winner Barry Baker has brought along his 2002 title winning Team Associated TC3 and trophy for us to have a look at. The car that won Baker his third RROC title on the iconic event’s first visit to Tamiya Raceway, it is also the same car that the Californian used to TQ the 2002 Worlds in South Africa which took place just the weekend before. The car was never run again so Baker had to build another one to win the ROAR Nationals a fortnight later to cap off a great few weeks. Its interesting to see how much touring car has developed over the past decade & a half and its great to see Barry still running and still winning races.

Starting with a setup from Eric Albano, Baker has changed almost everything with the focus on narrowing the track width as well as putting some weight on the front of the car to make it easier to drive.

The Finn is also using revised thicker shock parts that remove bad flex into the car’s innovative shocks.

Chassis Focus – Marc Rheinard

Fri-MarcTRF-3

Chassis – Tamiya TRF419X
Motor – Muchmore Fleta ZX 4.5T
ESC – Muchmore Fleta Pro V2
Batteries – Muchmore Impact 6000mAh
Tires – Sweep (handout)

Bodyshell – Protoform LTC-R
Remarks – Reigning Reedy Race Champion Marc Rheinard is using a variation of the setup he used 2 weeks at the 4th round of the ETS in Italy on his kit standard Tamiya 419X. Making some small adjustments such as less rear toe-in, using a non progressive spring as well as softer shock oil and lowering the rear shock position, the car is going well but feels he needs more steering. He plans to try narrower front suspension blocks in the hopes of fixing this.
