Chassis Focus – Ryan Maifield

Fri-Maifield8ightB-1

Chassis – TLR 8ight 4.0
Engine – Reds R5 Team
Tyres – JConcepts Triple Dees Green
Fuel – Sidewinder
Radio/Servos – Airtronics/Spektrum
Body – JConcepts Silencer

Remarks – Reigning DNC Buggy Champion Ryan Maifield has done a lot of testing with the 8ight 4.0 ahead of this race and came to this year’s DNC with a good base setup. Having changed away from that for the opening round of qualifying he has changed back to the setup he started with for the 2nd round. An interesting point is that Ryan has been playing with oil mixtures in his Sidewinder fuel, switching between 50/50 castor synthetic oil mix and a 20/80 mix, the former with more castor oil proving better for the engine in the dusty and high temperature conditions.

Chassis Focus – Mike Truhe

Fri-TruheMBX7-1

Chassis – Mugen MBX-7R
Engine – OS 2101B
Tyres – Pro-Line Switchblade X3
Fuel – Byron Fuel
Radio/Servos – Futaba/MKS
Body – Kit Body

Remarks – Prior to coming to the DNC, Mike Truhe had 4 days running with his new Mugen/OS race package. Starting the event here with the setup from team mate Adam Drake, Mike has had to adapt the setup to make it more stable for this high speed track, laying down the shocks, making the rear links longer and trying to slow down the damping, changing from 6 to 8 hole pistons with thicker oil. Still not settled on his tire package, the temperatures and time of day requiring changes, he is currently switching between Pro-Line Switchblade, Blockade and Holeshot with the Blockade emerging as a favourite.

Chassis Focus – Spencer Rivkin

Fri-RivkinRC8B3-1

Chassis – Associated RC8B3
Engine – OS 2101B
Tyres – JConcepts Triple Dees green
Fuel – Sidewinder
Radio/Servos – Airtronics/Reedy
Body – JConcepts Striker

Remarks – Current 2wd World Champion and Arizona native Spencer Rivkin is racing the Associated RC8B3 here at the Fear Farm. Having tested extensively prior to this event in both California and Las Vegas with new 1/8th development staff member Dan Hissam they have changed a lot on the setup side with relation to roll centres, anti-roll bars and weight transfer. Spencer is running Reedy’s new all metal case and gear servo, the RS2207A, to control the car, while for traction he has chosen the JConcepts Triple Dees for qualifying and with the track expect to rut up for the finals he will then switch to Diamond Bars.

Chassis Focus – Jared Tebo

Tebo-Strr-1

Chassis – Kyosho Inferno ST-RR Evo2
Engine – MX B2R
Tyres – Pro-Line Holeshot X3
Fuel – MX Racing Fuel
Radio/Servos – KO Propo
Body – Kit Body

Remarks – Multiple DNC winner Jared Tebo is running his standard dirt setup on his MX powered Kyosho ST-RR. Pretty much unchanged from the kit car he has two main changes, he is using Lunsford titanium screws and turnbuckles throughout and he has replaced the kit chassis stiffening braces with optional aluminium versions from King Headz. For the final run of the day Jared is planning to go up in oil in the front and rear differentials to stop it ‘diffing out’.

Chassis Focus – Ty Tessmann

Thurs-Tessmann-10

Chassis – HB D8T Tessmann edition
Engine – OS Spec 2
Tyres – Pro-Line Holeshot X2
Fuel – VP 30% Tessmann
Radio/Servos – Airtronics/Savox
Body – Pro-Line Enforcer

Remarks – Current 1/8th buggy World Champion Ty Tessmann is running his own edition D8T with his base setup with just a few minor changes. Due to the high speed nature of the track combined with the bumps they have decided to remove the rebound completely from the shocks which helps dumb the car down. Ty is also using his soon to be released 30% Tessmann edition fuel from VP Racing fuels. Having tested a lot throughout the past few months the final blend uses only synthetic oils which they say makes the power delivery crisper and the engine run longer.

Chassis Focus – Ryan Maifield

Thurs-MaifieldTrug-9

Chassis – TLR 8ight-T 4.0
Engine – Reds R5 Team
Tyres – JConcepts Reflex green
Fuel – Sidewinder
Radio/Servos – Airtronics/Spektrum
Body – JConcepts Finnisher

Remarks – Having been testing the all new 8ight-T 4.0 from TLR for a few months now, Ryan Maifield already has a base setup for the car in these conditions. The car, which is 11mm narrower than its predecessor, has only had some minor changes made to its setup with the Arizona native using softer springs front and rear. A result of the new driveline being straighter than the 3.0 he has had to go up in the centre diff oil from 10K to 15K to get more drive to the rear wheels.
