New in the Pits – JConcepts

JConcepts are debuting a number of new items here at the 2016 Dirt Nitro Challenge, the first of the recently released Triple Dees and the Lil Chasers. Available in a variety of compounds they work very well on slightly damp track conditions and are working very well here this weekend with Ryan Maifield taking the top spot in both buggy classes this weekend. The next new item is the Hybrid polycarbonate rear wing which is a pre trimmed wing that comes supplied with a two depths of plastic rear gurneys and two versions of each depth that can be mounted with or without the centre centre divider and all are mounted to the wing with a rear plastic brace to added strength and durability. Finally there is a set of Titanium turnbuckles for the TLR 8ight 4.0 for light weight and high strength.

Chassis Focus – Tanner Stees

Fri-SteesHB-10

Chassis – HB D815
Engine – OS 2101B Tessmann Edition
Tyres – Pro-Line Holeshot X3
Fuel – VP
Radio/Servos – Airtronics/Protek
Body – Pro-Line Type-R

Remarks – The Fear Farm is the home track for Arizona native Tanner Stees, the young HB driver very familiar with the surface here, a track at which he does a lot of testing with his D815. Making only slight changes to his car for the different conditions using thicker oil during the warm temperatures, to settle the car on the bumpy surface he has gone to 5 hole 1.5mm shock pistons from his usual 6 hole 1.3mm pistons. In terms of tires he has stuck with Pro-Line Holeshot but played around between M3 and X3, the latter being the compound of choice so far.

Chassis Focus – Ryan Maifield

Fri-Maifield8ightB-1

Chassis – TLR 8ight 4.0
Engine – Reds R5 Team
Tyres – JConcepts Triple Dees Green
Fuel – Sidewinder
Radio/Servos – Airtronics/Spektrum
Body – JConcepts Silencer

Remarks – Reigning DNC Buggy Champion Ryan Maifield has done a lot of testing with the 8ight 4.0 ahead of this race and came to this year’s DNC with a good base setup. Having changed away from that for the opening round of qualifying he has changed back to the setup he started with for the 2nd round. An interesting point is that Ryan has been playing with oil mixtures in his Sidewinder fuel, switching between 50/50 castor synthetic oil mix and a 20/80 mix, the former with more castor oil proving better for the engine in the dusty and high temperature conditions.

Chassis Focus – Mike Truhe

Fri-TruheMBX7-1

Chassis – Mugen MBX-7R
Engine – OS 2101B
Tyres – Pro-Line Switchblade X3
Fuel – Byron Fuel
Radio/Servos – Futaba/MKS
Body – Kit Body

Remarks – Prior to coming to the DNC, Mike Truhe had 4 days running with his new Mugen/OS race package. Starting the event here with the setup from team mate Adam Drake, Mike has had to adapt the setup to make it more stable for this high speed track, laying down the shocks, making the rear links longer and trying to slow down the damping, changing from 6 to 8 hole pistons with thicker oil. Still not settled on his tire package, the temperatures and time of day requiring changes, he is currently switching between Pro-Line Switchblade, Blockade and Holeshot with the Blockade emerging as a favourite.
