Chassis Focus – Dustin Evans

Sat-Evans22-4-1

Chassis – TLR 22-4
Motor – Orion 5.5T
ESC – Orion Vortex R10.1
Battery – Orion 4500mAh
Radio/Servos – Spektrum
Bodyshell – Kit Body Lightweight
Remarks – Former Reedy Offroad Race of Champions Champion Dustin Evans is running a fairly standard 22-4 with just a few option parts installed. In order to get more corner speed he has flipped the rear wishbones to allow the shock absorbers to be mount to the front of the shock tower, which brings the weight more forward. After the first round of 4wd the car was stepping out at the rear and so has copied team mate Ryan Maifield’s setup so he is running less droop and less anti-squat.

Sat-OrlowskiKF2-1

Chassis – Schumacher KF2 SE
Motor – LRP 7.5T
ESC – LRP
Battery – LRP LCG 2900mAh
Radio/Servos – Sanwa
Bodyshell – Kit Body
Remarks – Reigning 4wd European Champion Michal Orlowski is running the KF2 SE from Schumacher. Looking for extra rear traction while trying to maintain steering, they have been playing with anti squat and increased rear toe to 4 degrees. Other changes include narrower rear hexes as well as using an MIP puck diff which they believe helps in their search for more traction.

Chassis Focus – Travis Amezcua

Sat-Amezcua210-1

Chassis – Durango DEX210 V3
Motor – Maclan MRR 6.5T
ESC – Maclan
Battery – Trakpower 4200mAh
Radio/Servos – Futaba / Xpert
Bodyshell – Kit Body
Remarks – Durango driver Travis Amezcua is using a slightly modified version of the DEX210 V3. Moving the battery to the transverse position instead of the standard inline position, he has had to cut the chassis side guards and so he needs to use turnbuckles to re stiffen the chassis. The result is that the weight is now more centralised and more to the rear so it helps give the car more traction. Up front there is a new lower mounted JConcepts front wing, the new position giving the car more steering than mounted behind the shock tower. In terms of setup, compared to pre race testing Travis has made the car softer up front to get more steering and added more rear toe in.

Modified from a rear motor transmission it is the precursor to a soon to be release option from the Japanese company. Jared is also running his JTP RC shock towers front and rear and in terms of setup he has changed from a prototype chassis that was used in Japan back to the standard chassis and has made some small tweaks to the front roll centre.

Chassis Focus – Ty Tessmann

Fri-TyD216-1

Chassis – HB D216
Motor – Orion 6.5T
ESC – Orion Vortex R10.1
Battery – Orion 4500mAh
Radio/Servos – Airtronics/Savox
Bodyshell – Pro-Line Type R
Remarks – Canadian Ty Tessmann is using the kit version of the HB D216 here at OCRC. Having tested at SDRC prior to this event he has made a few changes to the car for the challenging but improving conditions. Going into Invite race 1 he is looking for more mid corner steering and so has raised up the front shocks plus adjusted the roll centres. Not running a front wing he has found that on the HB car it takes away steering.

Chassis Focus – Lee Martin

Thurs-MartinYZ2-4

Chassis – Yokomo YZ2 Dirt Spec
Motor – RC Concept 7.5T
ESC – RC Concept SC120
Battery – RC Concept Omega 4500mAh
Radio/Servos – Airtronics/Xpert
Bodyshell – Kit Body
Remarks – Yokomo’s Lee Martin is running the YZ2 with a prototype Dirt spec 3 gear transmission for lower grip dirt conditions. Only receiving the new parts a week ago, he and the rest of the team tested at SDRC before the race here at OCRC but the grip was much higher and so the setup obtained cant be applied here. Also new on the rear of the car are prototype aluminium uprights and longer rear driveshafts that give the car more side grip. Up front is the new Pro-Line front wing mount that brings the wing forward to the wheel line for more effective downforce. Newly sponsored by RC Concept Lee is using the full line of electronics from the French company including the EC 7.5T motor, Omega 4500 LiPo and SC120 speedo. The Dirt spec YZ2 will be available in Spring of this year.
