Chassis Focus – Elliott Boots

Fri-BootsMP9-9

Chassis – Kyosho MP9 TKI3
Engine – Reds R7 Evo
Tyres – Pro-Line Diamond Back X3
Fuel – Byron Fuels
Radio/Servos – Sanwa

Remarks – Winner of the Euros Warmup on this track earlier in the year, Elliott is running a different configuration on his car as well as setup here at the Ongaroring this week. Up front he is using the new MS taller shock tower and longer shock absorbers as well as the new low downforce rear wing mount, which helps the car turn better. In terms of setup compared to when they tested here the conditions have changed from high grip to medium and so they have reverted back to one of their UK setups. Also having run Blockades back in May, he has now settled on PL Diamond Back tires, going for the relatively soft X3 compound.

Chassis Focus – Neil Cragg

Thurs-CraggRC8B3-2

Chassis – Team Associated RC8 B3
Engine – LRP ZX.21C
Tyres – Pro-Line Blockade X2
Fuel – LRP
Radio/Servos – KO Propo
Body – Kit

Remarks – Former Electric Offroad World Champion Neil Cragg is running the all new RC8 B3 from Team Associated. Having driven the new car for the first time at a test following the warmup race, since then his father Mick has changed the setup completely searching for more rear traction. Changing the rear and centre diff oils, they have also raised the inside roll centres and are running a shorter rear chassis brace. Having played around with different tire patterns, such as the Fugitive and Lockdown, he has reverted back to Blockade. A big change also came from a new LRP engine they are testing which gives more linear power delivery which in turn makes the car easier to drive in the low grip conditions.

Tyres – AKA Chainlink
Fuel – Sidewinder

Like the new rear shock tower, the front tower has higher inside upper mounting points. In terms of setup he is running very the car set very similar to how he does on his home track in Finland and for the conditions here he has chosen AKA Chainlink tires in a new yet unreleased soft compound.

New in the Pits – Fast Race Part 2

Wed-FRCarbonBattery

Continuing on from yesterday’s Fast Race introduction comes the second and final part. Also for the Mugen MBX7R is a range of carbon parts which include the battery box shown above as well as 2 versions of side guards, which as well as coming in carbon are also available in a kevlar carbon mix. Super lightweight and very strong they are handmade in Italy.

Wed-FRPistons

For the Mugen, as well as HB and Xray, come this line of modifiable shock pistons which are blank, apart from pilot holes that allow you to customise the size and number of holes. Coming in regular and tapered versions there are 14 potential holes marked on the surface of each piston, 8 around the outside and 6 around the inside. Finally in terms of tools, Fast Race have their signature tire/wheel separator for 1/8th buggy wheels which sepearate the tire cleanly from the rim, while for gluing them up there is a tool which helps expose the bead of your buggy tire to allow for easy gluing.

Chassis Focus – Darren Bloomfield

Wed-BloomfieldAgama-2

Chassis – Agama A215
Engine – Bullitt 220
Tyres – Beta Freeride Medium Soft
Fuel – Piranha
Radio/Servos – Sanwa/KO Propo
Body – Kit

Remarks – Another racer to have attended the warmup race, the 2012 European Champion has made no changes to his setup since arriving back at the Ongaroring. The only new part on the car is Agama’s newly released lexan wing which makes the car’s handling more lively while giving it less side bite. Having tried V-Max tires he felt they had more steering and side bite than the Freeride but the latter had more forward traction and so has chosen for them.
